Chairman's Chat 'New competition, Training Days, & Rule Changes' Hi
all,
Competition Format |
CLUB QUALIFIERS |
|
|
What we are now asking Clubs to do is to incorporate Qualifiers into existing events, or into any events that are still in the planning stage. Ideally we need as many Club Qualifiers to be held as possible. For the Riding Test Finals, a Preliminary Dressage Test will suffice as a Qualifier as will any form of jumping class of the appropriate height. You don't have to run a topscore class. Entrants do not need to be members of a Club, nor at this stage do their horses need to be flu vacc'ed. For each entry into your Club Qualifier you need to charge a £3 surcharge which will be forwarded to RW, along with a list of participants & results. The winners of each of the classes will then take part in ...... |

|
AREA QUALIFIER |
|||
|
All winners from the Club Qualifiers will be eligible for the Area Qualifier. To take part in the Area Qualifier competitors must be a member of an Affiliated RC. Flu Vacs are required at Windsor, but because of the very short lead-in time for this competition ONLY Flu Vacs won’t be required at Area level. The Area Jumping Finals will be held on the 12th April at Fraddon Spring Show, near St Columb Major, and I hope to be able to confirm the details for the Riding Test Area Qualifier very soon. |

|
WINDSOR FINAL |
WINDSOR CHAMPIONSHIP |
||
|
The winners of the Area Qualifiers will then go forward to the Finals at Windsor as detailed above, and the top 6 from each section on each day will go forward to..... |
A final 'Ride off' in the main Castle (international) arena. On the jumping days this may include a course walk with a top 'name'. | ||
| HORSE/RIDER ELIGIBILITY | PUBLICITY | ||
|
Please see Rule Book for Novice RT Eligibility Rules, which will apply.
For the Showjumping usual Novice Rules (ie no BSJA winnings apart from
notional £1s gained in starter classes), and for the Open Showjumping
our Intermediate SJ limits will apply to horses and POSSIBLY to riders
as well....with riders being able to downgrade their winnings at £50 per
year in the same way we do the horses. This is because Royal Windsor
really want these competitions to be the province of RC grassroots
members. Rider eligibility is still under discussion though. I'm sorry to be so vague about this and I will confirm as soon as I can, but we really need to get this off the ground in as many Clubs as possible. |
At
this stage please let me (Jane) have your proposed dates for the Club
Qualifiers. There is total flexibility as to what kind of class / show
these qualifiers are held in. I will provide support in
preparation (ie how to fit in with your existing schedules) and on the
day where possible, if required. There will be publicity in local press
as well as on our own website. This could be a real opportunity for BRC to forge a great relationship with H-Power (who are the organising body not only of Royal Windsor, but also of Olympia.......) but we need the support of the Clubs to get it off the ground and be as positive as possible. Please do feel free to contact me with any questions either via my email or mobile 07966 450 490. |

| ANNUAL TRAINING DAY - 22 February | JUDGE/EXAMINER EVALUATION - 15/16 April | ||
|
Annual Training Day will take place at Chyverton on the 22nd February,
and is a Health & Safety day.
We will start by doing a 'Risk Assessment' at Chyverton and then, after
lunch, move on to classroom type discussions. |
Donald Kear BHSI, Chairman of BRC Training is our Master Judge for a 2 day Judge / Examiner Evaluation. Donald will be joining us on the 15th & 16th of April, so anyone interested in becoming a BRC Judge or Examiner, or who needs to attend a refresher, please contact myself, or Chantal at Head Office. We are very short of both Judges and Examiners in Cornwall, so anyone who has thought that they may like to undertake the training will be more than welcome. The days are also very useful for anyone wishing to gain an insight in to what the Judges and Examiners are looking for. There is no charge for these days, and once again, we will need mounted 'guinea pigs'. Riders who have attended these sessions in the past have found them of immense value, and the quality of instruction available is of a very high calibre indeed. There is no charge for riders who volunteer, and if the Master Judge thinks that those who have come forward are of a suitable standard, he can award the appropriate BRC exams on the day. |

| RULE CHANGES | |||
|
There are always, when a new competition year approaches, some rules
changes coming up. Rules are only changed when there is good reason and
each year less and less amendments are made. The biggest change is to
the age of Juniors which in 2009 (so for the remainder of the 2008
competition year) goes up from 17 to 18.
However, as an error
appeared in Rider Magazine stating that the age was still taken from the
1st January instead of from the 1st April, the NEC decided not to bring
the 'age year' into line with the competition year after all, so ages
for Juniors are still being taken from the 1st January.This means we
still have the situation where Juniors become Seniors half way through
the competition year, but we've coped with it for many years and I'm
sure we can continue to do so for the time being. Remember though that
the competitions still to run (Winter Dressage and NISJ) will run under
the 2008 rulebook, which remains in force until 31st March, and for the
Festival of the Hunter. However the XC Finals at Aston le Walls will run
under a totally new format, as the existing competition being decided
solely on time with no test of skill was not producing a good
competition, and was generating a lot of frustration and complaints from
competitors. The Competitions Committee have decided to run the event as
an 'Eventers Grand Prix / Derby. Even though some Area's (such as
ours!!) have already run their Qualifiers, the NEC ratified the
recommendation by the Competition Committee to make these changes to the
forthcoming finals rather than wait another year, and risk more high
levels of dis-satistaction. I will be in touch with those who have
qualified once the rules have been finalised and go through what will be
expected of them. Should anyone who has already qualified not be happy
with the change, then they can drop out and the place will be offered
down the line. There is also going to be a new Combined Training
Competition at the Festival which will consist of a Riding Test and a
round of Style Kumping. This new version of combined training is for
individuals only, and entry will be direct to the office - there are no
Area Qualifiers. The other big change is that the Office are going to be a lot more flexible on late Preliminary Entries. Entries received after the 21 days prior will now be accepted, subject to the approval of the Area Rep / Competition Organiser, but will be subject to the late entry penalty of £5 per individual / £20 per team. Area Organisers may also want to charge a late entry surcharge, so whilst it's nice to have the flexibility on late entries, it make financial sense to get them in on time!! Please keep watching the website, as updates will appear on here as we get them. Congratulations if you got this far. That's about it for now, other than to wish you all a very "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year." I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during 2009. Jane. |
